How it works
Five stages, in order, from agreement to settlement.
Covalt Work does not ask you to trust a counterparty more than you already do. It asks you to write down what completion means, and then holds the transaction to it.
01
Agree
Define the work and conditions.
The engagement is broken into an ordered milestone schedule. Each milestone carries the conditions that mark it complete — a deliverable accepted, an approval given, a period elapsed. Both sides see the same wording before any work starts.
02
Fund
The transaction is structured through Covalt.
Each milestone becomes its own transaction with its conditions attached. Covalt is non-custodial: it never holds the money. Authorisation and capture happen on regulated payment rails, and Covalt records the conditions attached to the outcome.
03
Work
The provider completes the agreed work.
The provider works against one milestone at a time, with the conditions visible throughout. Nothing about the definition of completion can be changed unilaterally once the milestone is live.
04
Verify
Evidence is checked against the agreed conditions.
Evidence is submitted against the specific condition it satisfies. Verification is a comparison against what was written down, so the question is whether the condition is met — not whether the relationship feels good.
05
Settle
Payment proceeds when the transaction rules are satisfied.
When every condition on a milestone is met, settlement proceeds for that milestone and the next one opens. A milestone cannot settle ahead of the one before it; the order is enforced by the infrastructure.
